When we were brought in, The Wizard of Oz adaptation for the Las Vegas Sphere was already deep in production — with multiple companies involved, including Google, collaborating across time zones and state lines.
Our focus? To create a 15-minute behind-the-scenes film that balanced two worlds: the complex technical innovation driving the project and the human ingenuity behind it.
The film needed to work as a standalone marketing asset, building excitement for the full Wizard of Oz experience while elevating Google Cloud AI’s brand, driving market awareness, and showcasing AI’s real-world impact on entertainment.
The challenge was multi-layered. We needed to capture footage in real time during a live, fast-moving production schedule while securing interviews with key creatives and engineers working under immense pressure. At the same time, we had to distil highly complex technical processes into a narrative with emotional depth — a story that would resonate equally with tech innovators and film lovers. Finally, we were tasked with delivering a custom Sphere-optimised version to premiere at Google Cloud Next Day 0 on April 8th, featuring massive screen takeovers inside the Sphere itself.
We approached the film with agility and precision, embedding ourselves within the production as it unfolded. Our goal was clear: to capture breakthrough innovations as they happened while shining a spotlight on the brilliant minds pushing AI to new creative frontiers.
To achieve this, we ran two parallel tracks. On one side, we focused on the documentary production, following the project across states and time zones to document the race to the premiere. This meant securing interviews with engineers, filmmakers, and technicians as they worked tirelessly to bring the adaptation to life. At the same time, we collaborated closely with producers and technicians to engineer a version optimised for the Sphere’s unprecedented scale, seamlessly integrating cinematic screen takeovers into the BTS narrative.
The edit itself was a moving target, constantly evolving as new material emerged from the still-active Wizard of Oz production. Our team remained highly adaptive, ensuring the final film stayed cohesive and compelling despite the ever-shifting production landscape.
The final 15-minute film delivers both heart and innovation — an intimate look at how Google Cloud AI powered one of the most ambitious entertainment projects of the year.
It debuted at Google Cloud Next Day 0 in Las Vegas, immersing audiences in iconic moments on one of the world’s most advanced screens.
By balancing technical depth with human emotion, we turned a complex production into a story that resonates — celebrating both the science and the soul of innovation.
