Lane Violation – a one-hour documentary that aired during prime time on ESPN during NBA finals – is the centrepiece of Hahn’s sport strategy. Hahn are the beer for social athletes, and the brand’s movement into basketball culture and community needed to be both credible and meaningful. So, we helped TSE craft a longform documentary that was unfiltered and honest and would engage basketball fans and casual players, alike.
This is the story of one of Australia's greatest basketball players of all time—told by one of Australia's greatest basketball players of all time.
Luc Longley was the original Aussie trailblazer in the NBA, a key figure in the Chicago Bulls’ legendary second three-peat, and an inspiration to generations of Australian basketballers. With a team-first mentality, an unshakable cool under pressure, and the ability to thrive alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, “Luuuuuuuuc” became a fan favourite in Chicago and a pioneer for those who followed.
Among them was Andrew Bogut—an undeniable talent, a fierce competitor, and a No.1 NBA Draft pick. But early in his career, Bogut distanced himself from Longley with bold, cutting remarks:
"I'm not as slow as Luc Longley, I'm more athletic, I can shoot better, I'm more competitive. So I think it's not even fair to bring that name up … Longley’s not fit to lace my size 18s."
The comparison between the two was inevitable, but the tension was real. However, two decades on, the landscape has shifted. Now friends, colleagues, and confidants, Longley and Bogut stand at a fascinating crossroads. With Longley’s endorsement, Bogut is set to take on a pivotal role as the Sydney Kings' assistant coach, transitioning from outspoken player to mentor and leader.
In this compelling documentary, Luc Longley takes us on a journey through time—across Australian states, iconic basketball arenas, and unforgettable moments in both his and Bogut’s careers—to explore the evolution of a rivalry into respect. As Bogut embarks on this next chapter, Longley asks the ultimate question: Is “Rogue Bogues” ready to become “Coach Bogues”?—-
